22.1.07: Ryanair concede environmental benefit of air tax rise?
Following on from the recent announcement that airport tax was to increase, I today received an email from Ryanair who I have the pleasure of flying to Norway with in a few weeks time.
Unfortunately, as you booked your flight before the 7th December 2006 with a travel date after the 1st February 2007 , we have no alternative, in this instance, but to act as the UK Chancellor’s tax collector.
While some other airlines are choosing to absorb the tax, it didn’t come as much of a surprise that low-cost Ryanair wouldn’t follow suit. However, I wasn’t expecting the cleverly hidden admission that it might just do some good.
Ryanair condemns the UK Chancellor’s unfair and regressive tax on ordinary passengers. And we urge you to write to Gordon Brown MP indicating your opposition to this tax grab which will generate £1bn in tax revenues for the UK Government, but will not do nothing for the environment.
